SoftLayer opened its doors on January 23, 2006. Their primary datacenter was out of Dallas, and they only sold servers from that datacenter. On December 17, 2007, they opened their Seattle datacenter. At the same time, they launched a new service called a Virtual Dedicated Rack (VDR). On May 7, 2008, SoftLayer announced the opening of their third datacenter, in Washington, D.C.

CreativeVPS first opened its doors for business in the second quarter of 2007. CreativeVPS currently operates out of the Infomart datacenter in Dallas, Texas as well as the 530 W. 6th Street datacenter in Los Angeles.
